The Data plate is the original one issued by Packard and stamped by Packard Inc. The engine number fits correctly in the Engine number sequence. This car is as real, and authentic, and original as it can be! Here we see the radiator shutters, which work properly with the thermostatic actuator.
Also note the big, heavy, V Vibration damping bumpers. Look how straight the body is, and how nicely the doors fit. Also note the dual pinstriping in the factory pattern. More straight body panels, and a blue California license plate. Trunk rack and heavy V bumper. They were the original blue dots! And, it was a subtle way of proclaiming that this car was better than everything else on the road!
The mighty Packard V Unbelievably smooth and powerful. An important feature on this car — Cast Iron cylinder heads. Most Packard Twelves have Aluminum cylinder heads, which are victims of electrolytic corrosion. This car has the super desirable cast iron heads. Note the Purolator oil filter. Also note the coils have been changed out for modern units. More important are these factory original stampings, that show the correct body type — means V Club Sedan — and 72 is the sequential production number of this body type.
Packard Inc Philadelphia had a nice method of stamping their dealer information, they must have had a fixture to do it. On this plate, the only hand stamping is the delivery date. The proportion and balance of the design is evident — the inch wheelbase allows for a beautiful long hood, bodywork that occupies the middle of the chassis, and the rearmounted spare makes a long car look even longer! Also note the unusual wood spoke artillery wheels. Advanced engineering like this was what caused the original price of the car to be so high.
